Esteemed Colleagues:
The upcoming conference is shaping up nicely, with a stellar lineup of speakers and events. We have tried to make sure that there is something valuable for everyone regardless of your level in the judgment enforcement business, whether you are just starting out, or have been in the business for years.
Friday, October 11 Our renowned all-day Judgment Enforcement Class, led by one of the most knowledgeable people in the business: Gretchen Lichtenberger. We’ll send out a separate detailed flyer with the content. This is a separate event and is essential for those starting out, yet still valuable for those who want a refresher course. It’s a heck of deal for $200 ($175 for early-bird members, even less for those with member educational vouchers), which also includes breakfast and lunch, as well as a hefty reference manual. See pricing on CAJP website.
The last CAJP Board meeting of the year will be held immediately following the class, with dinner provided to those guests who register.
Saturday, October 12 – Sunday, October 13
Although the program order and details are still being fine-tuned, some highlights include:
Ashley Lipson, Esq. presenting a session on how to make your evidence admissible. Mr. Lipson is the author of Is it Admissible?, Guerilla Discovery, and many other well-known legal practice guides. He is a law professor and trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience.
Michael Hensley, Esq., of AlvaradoSmith, presenting “Adding Judgment Debtors: Elements, Defenses, and Practical Tips”. Mr. Hensley is an expert on alter ego motions, and has close to 40 years of legal experience.
Paul Young, Esq., presenting “Using the Crime-Fraud Exception (California Evidence Code 956) to Examine the Debtor’s Asset Protection Attorney”. This is a slightly more advanced session on accomplishing what many of us currently only dream of doing.
Jay Adkisson, Esq. on “Recent Updates in Judgment Enforcement Law.” Jay will discuss the ramifications of recent cases that may significantly affect our business.
Gretchen Lichtenberger on “Ethical use of subpoenas and Notices to Consumer.” This is a process that we probably all use, but which has many pitfalls. Gretchen will help us avoid the landmines of a very valuable asset discovery tool. (For attorneys, 1.0 hour MCLE Ethics credit pending.)
Raymond Goldstein, Esq. on a topic area to be decided. Raymond is an author and editor of one of the primary references in the enforcement business, CEB Debt Collection and Practice in California, and is the managing partner of the Center for Enforcement of Family Support.
Richard Morrison on “Using Technology to Put Your Business on Steroids,” a look at some low-cost (and no-cost) software to find, solicit, and manage judgments, and to manage all of the valuable case law and practice tips you come across.
A moderated panel discussion with some of the top judgment enforcers in the business, who will share their tips for success and allow you to ask any burning questions that may be holding you back.
Saturday evening is our hosted reception, and breakfast and lunches for both days are included, along with the reference binder from the sessions. PLUS, the most valuable benefit of all, the opportunity to network with your colleagues. This is a heck of a deal for the current member price of $445. (Non-members pay a little more) The price will be increasing soon, so go to the www.cajp.org website and sign up now.
Breakfast and Lunch for Saturday and Sunday will be provided and a hosted bar will be open at a scheduled time on Saturday Evening.
